Finally, Another Post!!

I have really been having problems with my feet and haven't done a lot of walking or hiking.  I've started some physical therapy on my foot and hopefully I can get back in the swing of things.  With the cooler weather, it is easier to walk around too, because I don't swell as much.

This might be a little bit of a cheat, but we headed to Hogle Zoo.  I tracked my walking and it was a mile, so I'm counting it.  It is the first good outing I've had in a while.  I'm working back up slowly because I have to finish my 50 miles.

Yellowstone

Ahh, so pretty up here.  Without my hiking shoes I pounded out 3.5 miles of hiking.

Silver Lake

It has been so hot lately and we finally had a beautiful day.  We went to Silver Lake and hiked around.  It was cool enough we used jackets.  It was a wonderful hike!

Living Room

Yuck!  Only got one mile in and didn't even get to take some pictures.  The heat is just too much.  I turfed it coming down and scuffed up my leg.  Called the doctor about my dizziness and he said it's my blood pressure.  Sooooo, hiking when its cool, or wait until fall for the big hikes.  We'll just have to take this a day at a time.  When it's over 90 I just can't do the hiking!

Bonneville Shoreline Trail

Wow, Mid 90's and it was a little rough.  We hiked 5 miles today, but because it was getting late, and my blood pressure was sky high, we turned around before we made it the entire way.  I was bummed, but it turned out to be a good idea because we got back just before dark.  It was fun to see the sunset from above the city though.

Vernal Utah

We made a quick trip for the weekend to Vernal, Utah. We chose to do a hike that is right in the middle of Dinosaur National Park.  It was so pretty and the weather was perfect also.  We went from flat sagebrush, to a sandy wash, then through red dirt , what they call the labrynth, then to a long walk across the ridge.  Then came the boulders and the slick rock.  There was so much variety in this hike and it made it so much fun!  We stopped halfway through for granola, and apple, and a drink of water, then continued on.

Arches National Park

Wow, what a fabulous weekend.  For graduation I treated myself and the family to a weekend at Arches.  The park is so beautiful.  We went on just about every hike we could find and I packed up a whopping 10 miles.  I also got two large blisters on my feet.  I'm not sure how to fix this problem for the future, but I didn't let it stop me.  It mas so amazing!

Fremont State Park

On our way home from Arches, we stopped for just a few minutes to check out the museum.  While there we decided to go ahead and hike to a cave.  Add another two miles, and I'm a happy camper!  I'm gonna make this goal!

Salt Lake Cemetery

Wow, who would have thought that walking around the old Salt Lake City Cemetery would be such a workout.  I did about half a mile, but I was breathing so hard!  Found some cool markers though, and widdled down on my goal.

Temple Square

Okay, just a warning. Wearing new shoes is not a good idea when walking around. I got a blister from walking around downtown today. Oh well, the weather was gorgeous and the flowers were beautiful!

Black Rock Mountain

Ouch! That's all I can say. I walked a mile and a half downhill. Don't ever let anyone tell you that downhill is easier. I totally had noodle legs and my knees ache. It was so pretty though.

The temperature was fantastic and it was so quiet.

Bonneville Shoreline Trail

I found the funnest place, and so close to home. Rob and I drove around for a while trying to find the head of the trail, and finally found our way onto a trail.

The wind was crazy hard, but it was so fun. There were hardly any people up here and it was a fairly easy hike. When we rounded the top we could see our house, or at least Foxboro way down below. From the other direction you could see Salt Lake City. So pretty. We only hiked in a mile. We didn't bring any water so we headed back. I plan on coming again to go all the way to Salt Lake. It is going to be fun.

You can see Salt Lake from here.

Look close, you can see Foxboro.
And of course, Rob is checking out the bugs along the trail :)

Finally......I've Started

I was finally able to start my hikes. I went to Antelope Island on the Mountain View Trail. This trail is along the west side of the island and gives a spectacular view of the mountains. The weather was amazing today, about 60 degrees with slight breeze. We only went for 1 mile and then I started feeling it, but I can't get myself down. It was a great start. The family went with me and it was nice to purge some of the pent up energy from my spring fever!!!!!

Finally......I've Started

Mountain View Trail. This is actually a 11.5 mile trail along the west shoreline of the Great Salt Lake on Antelope Island. We started down by the Garr Ranch and headed out. The weather was absolutely beautiful. It was around 60 degrees with a slight breeze. Spring fever so bad. The family came with me and I started out very anxious to get going. We walked for a while, then I started to feel it in my feet and my back and hip. I thought for sure we had walked a mile, but when we looked at where we had been in was only a half a mile. Arghh. I really need to work up to my long hikes I will be taking. We walked in and then out, so I have the first mile under my belt. That's good though. March 11th, and I'm starting out easy. I need to start some time. It was a beautiful day, and my family was with me. Who could ask for more?!

Late Start

Winter returned and I didn't get started on my hikes. Tomorrow the weather will be nice, but I don't know what I'll be able to do. Trying to get some hiking in. Hope for the best!

Co-Hikers

So, the weather is looking better and I'm recruiting companions. Bonnie wants to join me and I know Rob is going to go along too. I can't wait. Hopefully tomorrow we can get a mile or two down under my belt.

Time to Start Planning!

It has been such a mild winter. I've decided that I am going to try to do every hike in a small book I have. Plus what we do on trips. It will be 50 miles by the end of the year! Can't wait for a little bit warmer weather so I can get started. I need to start walking and preparing, but so lazy. It will happen though.

Goal for 2012

I am making a goal to hike 50 miles this year. I will chose many different local areas. The hikeswill vary from 3 to 5 miles, or even more! This blog will be my photo/journal of my journey! I hope I make it!!
